The Mind Is What Makes People Free Or Slaves

The mind is what makes people free or slaves

One of the greatest leaders of our time has been a prisoner for over 25 years.

However, he was able to forgive and transcend his own bars in his cell.

From his lips, wise words came out such as:. His name is Nelson Mandela, a figure who understood that the spirit is what makes people free or slaves.

Mandela is an example of free thought. A man who was able to feel peace with himself as he was locked in a forced labor camp and deprived of his rights as a human being. However, he was able to escape from his captivity thanks to his spirit.

The history of free people or slaves

Mandela knew how to find freedom locked in a prison. Specifically, in the light of the story of this great man, we would like to tell you the story of the free person and the slave person so that you know which side you are on.

Imagine a mid-sized city in which two people live, one at each end of the population. One of them is very rich and lives in wealth, while the other has a salary close to the average. For simplicity’s sake, we’ll call them the opulent gentleman and the average gentleman.

Every day, the opulent gentleman leaves the garage of his enormous home with his expensive and spectacular car. He feels very satisfied with his car but he knows that an even prettier and more expensive model has come out and wants to change to brag about his new vehicle.

On the other side, the average gentleman leaves his collective garage which he rents with his small apartment near his work. He has an average car, not very expensive but which he takes care of, because in this car, his first meetings traveled, the person he loves and he wants to keep these memories.

The opulent gentleman and the average gentleman at work

The opulent gentleman arrives at work with his head held high, bulging his chest and making everyone in his company look at him, because he is very angry. He thinks he’s the only one of value and that everyone else is good-for-nothing who doesn’t know how to do anything. Today, he will spend all his day in his office because when he is not there, everything goes wrong.

The average gentleman gets to his medium-paid job. He knows that, except for a game of poker, he will never be rich but that doesn’t matter to him because he loves what he does. He loves his job, he greets his colleagues, with whom he will eat during the lunch break and with whom he will laugh at the human and the divine.

The wealthy gentleman he has to work all day because he needs more money. He wants a new car, he wants to expand his swimming pool, he has to buy a new yacht and he is thinking of going on a trip to the other side of the world.

The average gentleman will work his hours at his post, without stress or rush. It delights him to know that he will be leaving the company early because his wife and child are waiting for him to go for a walk in the park and feed the birds while playing.

The opulent gentleman and the average gentleman in their personal life

Throughout the day, the wealthy gentleman only thinks about making money. He wants it all. A better car, the most expensive trip in first class or in his own plane, the most spectacular swimming pool, the most beautiful clothes… He only thinks of buying to be the one you want in town.

The average gentleman spends his days enjoying his free time with his family and friends. He walks in the park, he makes a few getaways from time to time, he goes out to dinner in a restaurant, he enjoys reading and living with his relatives, and sometimes he goes to the cinema or the theater.

Two-men-in-the-field

The opulent gentleman loves to take care of his appearances. He has the money and wants everyone to know it. He wants to show how rich, powerful and great he is. He has had success in life and is eager to show it to the world because he is an example to follow, a winner.

The average gentleman is able to smile, surprise himself and cry. We could say he is happy because he has what he needs. Love for his family, a job he enjoys and which allows him to live stress-free, and which leaves him free time to devote to the people he loves.

Free people or slaves

As a conclusion, we would like to ask a question: Who do you think represents the freest person? The opulent gentleman who has everything he can dream of? Or the average gentleman who has what he needs and enjoys life every day?

In reality, whether we are free people or slaves does not depend on how much money or possessions we have, what country we live in, or what our personal circumstances are. A poor human being can be much happier than one who has everything. It’s all in the mind. The more things you need, the greater your bondage will be. You choose which of the two morals you prefer in this story.
