Happiness Does Not Arise From Inertia, But From Movement

Happiness is not born of inertia, but of movement

We all dream of one day being able to close our eyes, breathe deeply, and not feel overwhelmed by this pleasant feeling of well-being; to feel that apart from blood, the only thing that runs through our body is happiness. Who doesn’t like to be well, and to feel happiness crisscrossing the pores of their skin?

The problem is, happiness doesn’t happen overnight, nor does it magically burst into our lives. Being happy is more than waiting and being satisfied with what you have; it is about deciding, acting and building by using personal values and motivations as a glue. Happiness is an internal state. He is the key.

Thinking that we are unhappy because happiness does not come into our life is a very common thought, as is asking the question: when will I be happy? The question lies in the fact that this state does not depend less on weather, external conditions or luck than on ourselves. What we do to achieve happiness.

According to Sonja Lyubomirsky, PhD in psychology and happiness researcher, 50% of our ability to be happy is influenced by genetics, 10% by external factors and 40% depends on what we think and what we do. So much so that the weight of our thoughts and our actions is 4 times stronger than what we could control. So, there are no excuses for working for our own happiness.

So if the life we lead doesn’t make us happy, it probably won’t be later on either, unless something is done to change the course of our life. Complaining is not the solution, nor the bridge that can lead us to well-being; it is simply the trap that anchors us to apathy or discomfort.

This tempting inactivity to which we are accustomed does not contribute to our well-being. And here the excuses have no value, if we want to be happy, the act is the only thing that can save us. Because, do we really think that by acting in the same way that makes us feel bad, we will succeed at some point in being happy?

As we have seen, in order to be happy, a rather important factor that we can learn to control is our thoughts. Moreover, among them, the one which has the most weight and which will determine in good measure whether we are happy or not, it is our concept of happiness.

What does happiness mean to you? What is happiness for him? And for her? What is happiness for me? These are very general questions, but often no one asks seriously. The problem is, if we don’t, how do we know when we are happy? It is necessary to ask these questions, regardless of the answers.

Once the questions are asked, there are various ideas to consider, such as that happiness is not something that you feel when you buy a car or a house, and that has little or nothing to see with the material beyond the fact of covering the basic needs. In this sense, the sensation that the material brings, even if it is pleasant, does not cease to be materialistic. Because it is not a question of quantity, but of quality.

Happiness is not a smile, although it can help. It is also not living as if nothing worries us, but it is the ability to face reality and build what makes us feel good without causing damage or injury. Finally, without crossing the line of considering others only as means or instruments.

However, it is not enough to want to be happy but to do something to be happy. It is the most important. Because being happy depends on us, what we think, what we do, how we feel and ultimately our decisions. It is our will in motion.

So that it is we who choose if we want to live being the protagonist of our life or on the contrary, if we want to observe it as a spectator. The first option will bring us closer to well-being, and the second to the role of victims. It all depends on us. All our decisions leave traces that mark paths.

But something that one cannot forget is that happiness requires courage, courage enough to face our fears, the ones that move so skillfully between the shadows of the shelter of uncertainty. In addition, we will not be happy if we think we deserve it, which is why it is very important to believe that there is this possibility. Because being happy is an attitude, a state that is cultivated from within, in movement.
