5 Steps to Train Your Brain Steve Jobs Style

If you want to improve your intellectual capacities and be more flexible or quick in your reasoning, ask yourself the following question: are you using your brain adequately? Is it possible that you are slow when it comes to reasoning?

After much research and further investigation, we have found that the most developed geniuses are sometimes in the same situation.

In this article, we’ll take the example of Steve Jobs, the creative genius who also felt the need to exercise and make his brain work harder.

In one of his interviews, Jobs recounted the effects of meditation to his biographer Walter Isaacson, as follows:

* ”If you sit down and watch yourself, you will see how worried your mind is. And if you try to calm him down, the situation will only get worse. If after a while you get there, then more subtle things will arise. Your intuition will be finer, your vision clearer, and you will be aware of yourself in time, in the present moment. Your thoughts will be slower, your awareness will grow, and you will see even further. ”

Of all the types of meditation that exist, Jobs chose mindfulness meditation, which has its origins in Zen Buddhism and Taoism.

In one of his last interviews, Jobs shared with Isaacson his practice of this type of meditation, which consists of 5 stages:

Step 1

Sit in the lotus position in your favorite place, comfortable and in silence.

To avoid back problems due to stress, you can sit on a pillow. Start to breathe deeply …

2nd step

Keep your eyes closed and listen to the thoughts that come into your mind. These are part of what is called “the Monkey Spirit” .

Don’t worry if these thoughts are preventing you from concentrating.

Just think in the present moment to observe how your mind moves from thought to thought, then repeat this exercise for 5 minutes a day for a week.

“Some people are willing to do anything but live in the moment.”

-John Lennon-

Step 3

Concentrate on what is called “the Spirit of the Ox,” the part of your mind that thinks calmly and slowly, focusing on the world around you.

The spirit of the ox only tries to observe, listen and feel without judging or understanding the signified. It allows you to be quiet, patient and picky at work.

Step 4

Beginning to become aware of your “beef mind” will allow you to ask yourself to move beyond the “monkey mind” state .

Think, for example, of Jeffrey James, who used the following technique for this exercise: imagine an ox moving slowly, and a monkey sleeping.

Do not worry if sometimes the monkey starts to “do its own thing , it is something normal that is part of the process… Gradually it will go away, and you can focus more on the state of the “mind”. beef ” .

Step 5

As you calm your monkey mind, try to focus on your beef mind by breathing slowly.

Your senses will sharpen and you will connect more with your surroundings and your sensations.

If you open your eyes, you will perceive the world around you, you will receive it differently, and perhaps a little oddly.

You begin to live in the present moment, here and now, authentically, in harmony with your essence.

This ultimate state is what one tries to achieve by means of these exercises. But for this you will need time.

Slowly, you will increase the duration of this feeling of peace and fullness, without realizing or hardly of the time passing.

And remember, mindfulness meditation allows you to:

  • To get rid of stress: it will allow you not to be reached by great difficulties or great worries.
  • To overcome and avoid insomnia .
  • To think and reflect more clearly , and to value much more what is happening in your life.

“The past has fled, what you expect is missing, but the present is yours.”

-Arab proverb-
